People with type 2 diabetes are unable to maintain normal blood sugar levels. This happens because the body doesn't make enough insulin. It can also happen because the body can't properly use its own natural insulin. High blood sugar over time can lead to complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye damage, and foot problems that can lead to amputations. The good news is that healthy eating, physical activity, and, possibly, medication can help control blood sugar.
